In the Wasatch Mountains - III. Adult Western Scrub-Jay

During my last hiking in the Wasatch mountains I didn't expect to see many birds but that morning was unusual.  I saw the Western Scrub-Jays, the hummingbirds, the sparrows and a Turkey vulture.

The Jay above gave me a difficult time to photograph him flying from tree to tree until he chose an interesting one and settled comfortably there.

I learned recently that Scrub-Jays don't migrate. I suspect that during winter these birds visit bird feeders for sunflower seeds or peanuts. I also was told that during winter the Scrub-Jays can become quiet trusting and you can easily train them to eat peanuts from your hand.

Generally, life is good!
