Western Meadowlark with Its Prey

A few days ago while photographing Burrowing owls, out of nowhere a Meadowlark appeared right in front of me. Its beak was full of insects. I assume that the bird was going to deliver its prey to his chicks.

Western Meadowlarks and European Starling

Western Meadowlarks are very vocal birds and if they sing, they sing with all their hearts. With their sonorous songs, little singers sometimes create the misleading impression that their melodic songs are being sung by a choir.

Singing with all his heart to the whole world.

Sometimes European Starlings join the Meadowlarks to perch together and Larks never mind being in the company of starlings.

Generally, life is good.

Good Morning Everybody!

The birds I saw and heard that morning on Antelope Island were mostly Western  Meadowlarks.  Most of them were far away or too skittish to photograph but one of them decided to perch on the rock close to the road and sing his heart out.

The Meadowlark is taking a break from singing.

The morning turned out to be windy and chilly that day on island and every time the Meadowlark took a break he cringed from the wind and looked so touching when his feathers were ruffled.

Meadowlarks on Antelope Island

There is a narrow road on Antelope Island that leads west to the Great Salt Lake. Every time I am on this road I slow down and with a sinking heart look around hoping to see the Burrowing owls.

Well, I have never seen owls there, instead I always met Meadowlarks.

Some of Meadowlarks prefer to rest on the rocks.

This bird spent half an hour on the colorful bush, sometimes disappearing in its wilds for a short while and then peaking out again to check if I was still there.

Sometimes the Meadowlark stretched his neck and he looked a little bit taller and very wary, peering at something that only he could see.

Generally, life is good!

When a Meadowlark Sings

On a quiet morning on Antelope Island this little bird was singing her wonderful song, taking sometimes a break.
