Yesterday morning, I visited  the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge. It greeted me with silence interrupted only by the intermittent, unmistakable song of blackbirds. 

Immediately upon arrival, I was strucked by aquatic plants and their clear,  mirror-like reflections cutting across the surface in stark, calligraphic lines—so graphic and deliberate they demanded a pause. 

Standing there by the edge of the water, watching nature ink its own designs across the surface, a new series, Drawn on Water, was born.

Not petals.

Just red learning how to fold into itself.

Flowers carry a small rebellion within them. They gently cross out your first impressions and, in their own way offer you something deeper and far less predictable.

Chasing birds anchors me to the earth, while my 'Other Reality' carries me elsewhere—a silent escape where both the world and I are rewritten.

Other Reality. Underwater World

Creating an underwater world is exciting because it's unlike any other. Everything in this world is uncertain, its contours are distorted,  and it seems to breathe tranquility. Maybe I miss that kind of peace so much that I long to step into it, even if only for a moment.

The Big-D construction site, its poster and the fence surrounding it became the central idea for this abstract image.

To create this image, I didn’t use a photomontage—just the in-camera multiple-exposure setting.  Photomontage has its place, but personally, I find the experience a bit boring, so I don’t feel inspired to explore it further.

Other Reality. Perhaps, Freedom Is...

Nothing in this scene was fixed — not the sky, nor the railing, nor the fragile leaf drifting between them. Perhaps, freedom is exactly that: the moment when we stop trying to hold on to something and let go.

Abstract #1. Transformation

 

You begin with patterns—like rust on old equipment—trying to create something interesting. But after a while, you sense that something is missing, something you can’t quite name. Suddenly, you look around and see it: the painted silhouette of a nude woman in a shop window.

This image was created through multiple exposures, a mixture of luck and many failed attempts. The nude woman in a shop window went through layers, color and time to exist fully.

Evening Mood

 

A Snow Goose on the evening swim.  Alone.  The light breeze has formed  interesting, abstract patterns in the water surrounding the Goose and its reflection.  Bear River is a true artist and often creates stunning abstract patterns.

Yesterday I read a saying from a boy named Nkosi Johnson, 
who lived in South Africa. Like many children there,
Nkosi was born with HIV, and he died when he was twelve.

He had a mantra, as he called it. This mantra touched my heart deeply:
"Do all you can, with what you have, 
in time you have, 
in the place where you are."

That's all anyone can ever do.

I went yesterday to our downtown, wandered on the streets looking for something interesting filled with energy and motion. I found some rusty patterns with lines, letters and numbers. I thought they had a voice and were speaking in their own bold way.
