I had never seen immature Ring-necked Pheasants before and was happy to get this photo, which I owe to the patience of a parent who stopped for a couple of minutes to wait for his young ones to join him.
I come across Pheasants often when I am on my way to Bear River MBR but these interesting birds aren't very accessible. Most of the time they disappoint me. The moment I stop my car the Pheasants run into the dense shrubs and disappear.
This male Pheasant was pretty brave and curious. I like these qualities in birds, they often give you an opportunity that you didn’t even know you had.
One week ago I had an opportunity to photograph the male and female Pheasants but my better shot turned out to be of the male. He was against a better background and his red head and colors were brilliant.
I learned recently that a male Pheasant is a polygamist. He keeps a harem of a few females and protect them fearlessly against other males.
The female Pheasant. She is very elegant with modest plumage that helps her to blend in with her habitat. I met her when she was crossing the road. The female wasn't in a hurry, walking slowly and heading into a field.
