The Willard Bay - I. Ice Fishing

It was still dark and foggy when I left the house determined to find the Willard Bay and the Bald Eagles.  Upon approaching the Willard Bay I saw  a brave family preparing for ice fishing.  

Shooting landscapes with a telephoto lens is always a challenge and frustration for me. Luckily, this morning my telephoto lens performed pretty well.

Later, going along the beach and occasionally glancing at the bay I began to feel that I got into the icy vast desert.  Such an odd feeling...

Life goes on.

 

  

Female Common Yellowthroat

When I am having a difficult time to identify a bird I remember the words of the wildlife photographer Paul Higgins " I am becoming less preoccupied with labeling birds and more experiencing them."  I feel the same lately.

Well, I believe that I photographed a female Common Yellowthroat but I am not sure because this bird is a complete migrator. It migrates to Arizona, Mexico and Central America. I took her photos in the middle of November and it was getting cold. 

On the first photograph she looks a little grouchy, but on the second the bird is more relaxed enjoying nice sunny morning.

Very Handsome Guy

Traveled today to Willard Bay State Park for the first time.  It was deserted but a trip was worthwhile. While walking on the campground's nature trail I spotted a few birds on the tree with dry berries.

Among them was the adult White-Crowned Sparrow with his bold thick crown stripes. A very handsome guy!
