Over the years I got used to the harsh environment of Bear River marshes and at some point I started to see them as beautiful places that offer abundance of food for Egrets and other birds.
The Snowy Egret flew to this marsh early in the morning and announced it as his fishing territory.
Knowing where the fish is requires a complex calculation of angle and depth. Here the Egret is doing this complex calculation. Before Egret will strike he has to position himself that the angle and depth fit his calculations. Egrets are excellent mathematicians.
One of many tricks Egrets use is simple. They stir the bottom of marsh to startle a prey into motion. The Egret stirred the silt and accidentally pulled it out of water. This trick didn't work well.
Egrets have developed over the years many smart tricks to get close to fish, crabs, shrimps, frogs and snails. There is a whole arsenal of them.
Generally, life is good!
always spectacular these fishing egrets ...
ReplyDeleteIt looks like water is like pitch, it's so hard to move your feet in it.
ReplyDeleteBesos
