October at the Great Salt Lake

October at the Great Salt Lake is usually warm and welcomes many birds like Ring-billed Gulls, American Avocets, Northern Shovelers, Dowitchers, Eared Grebes and others.

The Ring-billed Gulls are my favorite birds, it's always fun to watch them and photograph. I think that in a bird triathlon - swim, run, fly - they would be the true winners.

American Avocets in their winter plumage.

If you find a gull feather on the beach, it has probably been molted naturally after being used by the bird for a full year.  Looking carefully at the tip of the feather you will see that the white parts of the feather tip are more worn out.

On the photo above you can see many molted feathers on the shore.

I like this moment and how the Ring-billed Gull is making curvy thin lines of splashing water.

A Short-billed Dowitcher is napping.

Generally, life is good!

  3. Hello Kaya,
Fantastic again. So nice to see these pictures.
All with the clear colored water. Shot 4 and 5 are amazing.

    Greetings, Marco

    Besos
