Family Reunion

Pelicans are still at Bear river

but they rarely seen in big colonies at the end of summer.

These pelicans decided to have a family reunion on a log.

They shared a place with two cormorants.

I tried to fit all of birds in one frame but it didn't work well.

I gave preference to pelicans, they looked so funny.

  1. How big are they? We saw some at the beach here (North Carolina) who would stand on the pier and look my then 3 and 5 year olds straight in the eye. Tall birds!

  2. wow i LOVE this. Great poses and so fortunate you had the "eye" to see this in time and photo it before they ungrouped themselves. I have some favorites of mine of white pelicans i took up in Big Bear. I'll have to post them on my nature blog tonight or tomorrow. Seeing this reminded me that I don't think I ever put them up.

  3. Pelicans are migratory and rather large flights pass over the Midwest going south or north, as the season dictates. I once watched a rather large flock feeding on what must have been a school of thousands of smaller fish. Heads would bob and many of the pelicans would dive and be completely submersed for a period of time -- it was quite a sight.

I like your photograph, Kaya ....

  6. Una preciosa fotografía la de todo el grupo de pelícanos especialmente por el juego entre las aves, el tronco y el reflejo en el agua.
    Un abrazo,
