Great Egret

I took a series of photographs in May of this beautiful bird at Farmington Bay.

Great egrets are tall and big, they are almost as big as Blue Herons. Sometimes these birds are called the Great White Egret.

The Great Egret has a sad history. Large numbers of these beautiful birds were killed in North America in 19th century, so that their feathers could decorate hats. But eventually the hunting for the Great Egrets was stopped.

  5. The only shorebird of size I can identify is the Black-crowned Night Heron, and I can only identify it because a boyhood friend and I once found an injured one and brought it to a local minister who was an ornithologist by hobby. The bird recovered and was returned to the wild.

Your photographs here are terrific, Kaya ....

  6. La suavidad con la que has fotografiado a esta garza, con ese fondo desenfocado donde los reflejos del agua crean una sinfonía de luz, hacen aún más bella a este ave.
