This Black-Crowned Night Heron mystified me. He let me get very close to him and wasn't stressed at all. He was standing on the rocks on one leg for a long time.
***
Yesterday at Bear River I wasn't prepared for thunder, rain and nasty biting gnats and came home bitten by them. By the way, only females in the biting gnats species bite. Males in those species feed on flower nectar and other plant juices.
your photo so details, I even can see "one foot" of bird only....
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful day
ReplyDeleteDoes he have two legs?
ReplyDeleteYes, he has two legs.
Deletefine !!!
ReplyDeleteMe, too, Kaya .... thinking it was a penguin at first and wondering where you photographed it.
ReplyDeleteThese herons probably are the most common of its kind in my neck of the woods, and usually are off and flying before you get anywhere near to them.
A beautiful, calm and environmentally friendly bird.
ReplyDeleteSchön der kleine Reiher.

Great shots of this cosmopolitan species, Kaya. Very nicely done. And yes, only the females of biting insects actually bite. They need blood to produce eggs which the malles have no use for.

ReplyDeleteUn abrazo
