I knew that if you are lucky you may see Turkey Vultures at Bear river. Occasionally.
Two weeks ago I saw a flock of Turkey Vultures but they were so far away until the brave one came closer.
Adult Turkey Vulture is showing how big and powerful she is. Juvenile Turkey Vultures have grayish head.
Some think that the face of Turkey Vulture is ugly. I disagree. It's just different. I find Turkey Vulture's face very interesting.
Again on the show spreading her wings. She looks truly big and powerful.
Turkey Vultures are special birds. Their wings are huge relative to their weight, so they can stay aloft on raising air currants with very little flapping.
When trapped these birds vomit toward a predator protecting themselves.

Fotografie bellissime.
ReplyDeleteBuona serata
Me gusta mucho ese mundo tan natural, que siempre nos ofreces, con esas imágenes tan bien captadas, que publicas en tu blog.

I do not know what encompasses the range of the turkey vulture, but I do know they are nearly as thick as robins in the South Dakota countryside. Look up into the sky and it is not unusual to see a group of them lazily gliding in a large circle while drifting along scanning the landscape in search of their next meal. When I think about it, I do not believe I ever have seen them anywhere other than soaring high in the sky.
ReplyDeleteYou were fortunate to find some on the ground, I think, Kaya, and come away with some amazing photographs.
There were hundreds of Turkey Vultures migrating through southern Ontario today. Fall migration of this species is always dramatic.
ReplyDeletehow lucky to see Turkey in nature....
ReplyDeleteI just saw turkey in Walmart...
# Have a great day
beautiful meeting
ReplyDeleteBellissime queste fotografie dell'Avvoltoio, animale molto utile.
ReplyDeleteBuona giornata
We have them around here. Magnificent but ...ugly. ;-)
ReplyDeleteIt has a weird head shape.
ReplyDeleteMagníficas fotografías del buitre en las que, aparte de su fuerza, se aprecian todos los detalles de su cabeza y plumaje.
ReplyDeleteUn abrazo,
nice photos. I actually find them kind of cute in the face. Sometimes when they are far up in the sky i mistake them for eagles, like yesterday at our lake. and then it came closer.
ReplyDeletethis post is amazing!
