Without Parents

This morning I drove to see the family of Western Grebes I photographed last Thursday.  Luckily, they were at the same spot but this time the young ones were learning how to be on their own.

Being together is more safe.

A social time.

Let's explore the shady part of river.

Last Thursday I learned three lessons.

First lesson is to stay calm as possible when you encounter a rare opportunity.

Second lesson is to be patient and stay with birds for a very long time if it's possible. Eventually they will start to ignore your presence.

Third lesson is the most painful lesson; not to abuse buttons on your camera.   Last Thursday while I was photographing the family of Western Grebes I lost one of those buttons.
