A Strange Male Mallard or Bibbed Mallard

My visit to the small pond in Brigham City was fun and educational at the same time.

While photographing White geese I noticed an interesting duck among them.  The duck looked like a male Mallard but something was puzzling about it. His plumage colors were different and I noticed that its feathers were more smooth.

Apparently, there are so many variations of Mallard Ducks. Thus a duck I met last Sunday had a very different plumage and a white chest.

Later I would learn that for the first time in my life I met a Bibbed Mallard.  Who knew that the small, unsightly pond was full of unexpected surprises.

Generally, life is good!

  1. It seems that a painter chose the colors of his feathers very well.
