Great Egrets and American White Pelicans at Bear River MBR - I.

One week ago I saw a few Great Egrets and two American White Pelicans at Bear River MBR and was shocked.  I didn't expect to see Pelicans at this time of year.

Great Egrets can be found at the refuge all year around.  But what happened to two Pelicans? Did they miss their migration time or something else?  Hopefully, the Pelicans will survive our cold and harsh winter.

Many areas of Bear River are covered with ice but Pelicans and Egrets found a place close to the shore where they were able to swim and fish freely.

Great Egrets almost never left the pelicans.

You were lucky to catch fish.  Next time it would be my turn but meanwhile I would watch you how you were swallowing your catch.

Editing my photos I was getting more and more unhappy about background that was very messy and distractive but later my attitude toward the background started to change.  Egrets and Pelicans were trying to survive, they found the safe place where they could fish freely.  And that the only thing mattered!

Generally, life is good!

  3. Hello Kaya,
Nice to see these bothes kind of birds by each other.
That egret is so nice with his spread wings. I like picture 3 very much with the pelican.

    Many greetings,
    Marco
