Once upon a time, Great Blue Herons decided to stay in Northern Utah all year around and adapted to our harsh and cold winter.
There are many other birds that chose not to migrate; Emperor Penguins many decades ago chose to live and breed in Antarctica.
Great Blue Herons are very interesting birds. They are solitary predators and hunt alone but keep in groups during the winter months. They often breed in groups called "rookeries".
Life goes on.

ReplyDeletePreciosa. En lugar de estar sustentadas en el suelo sobre una de sus patas, las garzas azules parecen que están levitando entre nubes azules. La adaptación al clima es permanente. El cambio climático está haciendo que muchas aves cambien sus hábitos migratorios. Donde yo vivo las cigüeñas antes emigraban a Africa en los inviernos, ahora yo no emigran.

That's an amazing image, so narrative and beautiful! Maybe they lost too much of their family while traveling and decided to stay and see how to survive the cold.
