Your description makes them sound impossible to overlook, like a feathered parade! And you're right, they are quite distinctive. However, despite their size and color, they seem to be masters of camouflage on Antelope Island... at least from my perspective! Maybe they're better at hiding from photographers than hunters!

As the female is less colourful, she and her offspring are certainly better at camouflage.
