Male Ring-necked Pheasant

A small but surprising discovery: pheasants live on Antelope Island.  Oddly enough, I have never encountered these game birds there.

Generally, life is good.

  1. Pheasants on Antelope Island seem like they'd stand out, yet they’ve managed to stay hidden from you all this time.

  2. Un ave con una belleza y una personalidad únicas. La fotografía es, como ya es habitual, una maravilla pensada para que el faisán de collar, brille sobre todo lo demás.

  3. A hunting prey from another era, when weapons were heavier. The bird is big, colourful with a long tail, noisy when it takes off and slow. How can you miss it?

    1. Your description makes them sound impossible to overlook, like a feathered parade!
And you're right, they are quite distinctive. However, despite their size and color, they seem to be masters of camouflage on Antelope Island... at least from my perspective! Maybe they're better at hiding from photographers than hunters!

    2. As the female is less colourful, she and her offspring are certainly better at camouflage.
