Today I saw and photographed a Brown Pelican at Bear River that is a real Utah rarity.
How this Brown Pelican found his way to Bear river is a mystery.
The Brown Pelican found two favorite spots, two big logs. I was lucky this morning that he chose a log that was close to the shore.
The Brown Pelican usually doesn't do much on those logs, sometimes naps, sometimes cleans himself.
Seeing and photographing the Brown Pelican was very exciting. I have never seen before Brown Pelicans in the wild.
Brown Pelicans are rarely found away from the Atlantic, Pacific and Gulf coasts. This Pelican traveled alone to Bear River. That is so unusual.
When time will come the Brown Pelican will migrate. Alone. I hope he will find the way back home.

ReplyDeletefascinating, it travels alone.....
# As usual, great shots
Stupende queste fotografie del Pellicano bruno.
ReplyDeleteBuon martedi
This errant bird gave you some good photographic opportunities, Kaya. It is hard to know why the odd bird like this puts in an appearance so far from where it should be. One arrived in Ontario a couple of years ago. Perhaps they are blown off course, or more likely their migratory compass gets scrambled somehow.
ReplyDeleteUntil I arrived at your page, Kaya, I was unaware there was such a creature as a brown pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis), although since there are so many variations of other birds and critters I suppose it makes sense there would be among pelicans, too. By strict definition, I possibly might be considered a Homo sapiens occidentalis these days ....
ReplyDeleteThe first photograph is a classic, from my point of view. Excellent shot ....
Mi felicitación y enhorabuena. No sólo has conseguido fotografiar una autentica rareza en esas latitudes, sino que, además, las fotografía son magníficas e ilustran muy bien tu hallazgo.
ReplyDeleteUn abrazo,
