I have never seen Pied-billed grebes at Bear river but last October I met one of them. Luckily, this grebe didn't disappear in the water for a long time.
These birds have a nickname "hell divers" for their long dives. Pied-billed grebes are nocturnal migrant birds. You don't see them often in flight but they can easily reach Hawaii and Europe.
A very sweet look.
ReplyDeleteValuable photos.
lucky Kaya
ReplyDeleteMy recollection of "hell divers" from my days as a young hunter was their acute shyness and/or sensitivity to danger. Not only would they go under in a heartbeat, but in open water would not resurface until usually a very long distance from the point of the actual dive. I would "classify" them as entertaining to watch. I can recall seeing them only alone or as a pair, never in a flock.
ReplyDeleteYou do have a superb lens, Kaya. These photographs are terrific.
Estupendos disparos, Kaya, bonitas fotos, los reflejos en el agua las hacen muy atrayente.

aww...amazing, Pied-billed grebes may reach Europe....
ReplyDeleteDos buenos retratos de este ave a los que además has dotado de un contexto muy agradable gracias a los reflejos, las tonalidades y el movimiento del agua.
