In the Wasatch Mountains -VI. A Bird with A Fantastic Memory

Jays are very interesting birds, they are experts at hiding food that they want to save for later. Usually food is hidden in many places and Jays remember all of them.  These birds have a fantastic memory.

Some Jays spy on others and steal their food.

If a Jay thinks he was seen while hiding food, he will secretly return a few minutes later to move the food to a new better hiding place.  That is a high level of intelligence!

Western Scrub-Jays don't migrate.  During winter these birds often visit bird feeders for sunflower seeds and peanuts.

Generally, life is good!
