In a Marsh

A female Yellow-Headed Blackbird was very skittish and spent most of her time in a marsh. Only for a few minutes she took a short break.

In a marsh looking for food.

Here is a male Yellow-Headed Blackbird sets up territory waiting for female to arrive.  He sings a croaky courtship song showing off his plumage. Hopefully, a female would be impressed enough to mate.

  2. Яркая птичка. Второе фото очень понравилось. Какая же она легкая, что ее трава держит!
    И вода красиво переливается.

  3. Hermosas imagenes las de estos mirlos. Me gustan especialmente la segunda, con la hembra haciendo equilibrios sobre las plantas del pantano, y la última con el macho entonando su canto con ese plumaje alborotado.

  4. I always think that the song of this species sounds like electronic equipment that does’t quite sound right! We do not have them here but years ago friends lived in Kansas, and I would visit Cheyenne Bottoms where they were present in the thousands. Your pictures brought back great memories.

  5. Coo...coo...coo. This makes me want to cry out like a bird. I bet I don't sound like any bird ever. Maybe Big Bird!

  6. Blackbirds have a tendency to flock by the thousands in the autumn and fly in the same manner that fish school. It is enjoyable and interesting to watch them. From a distance, it would appear to be an out-of-control, black cloud, bobbing up and down, forward and back.

I especially like the third photograph, Kaya .... it is sort of an action shot ....
