For a while I didn't understand why this bird has such an odd name Killdeer. Right now I know that this name was given to it because of its call that is very loud and piercing kill-dee. I even tried to imitate it but wasn't very successful.
Killdeer has the white fluffy feathers on its chest and the chicks can huddle under these warm feathers when they are very young.
Killdeer is a large plower. It has two black bands around its neck and breast.
Solo con la mirada ya se ve que es un pajaro con caracter. Bonitas imagenes, Kaya.

So that's the reason for the name!

ReplyDeleteThe bird is in a waiting time.
Me encanta ese adorable pájaro.
ReplyDeleteLas fotografías te han quedado perfectas.
This delightful little plover is probably the most familiar shorebird in North America, well known to even those with little interest in birds. Their proclivity to nest in close proximity to man endears them to everyone, as does their habit of feigning a broken wing to lure predators away from their chicks.
ReplyDeleteEstupendos acercamientos al pájaro, Kaya, fotos con buena nitidez.
ReplyDeleteSaludos.
