Sandhill Cranes at Bear River

That particular morning in August at Bear river was full of surprises. First I was thrilled to see two Sandhill Cranes that is a very rare occurrence then later I spotted a flock of Turkey Vultures.

  5. It is always a thrill to meet Sandhill Cranes. I am very fortunate that they breed locally and are generally not hard to find. For a charming account of these birds try to get your hands on a copy of Paul Johnsgard's little book "Those of the Gray Wind." It was published in 1981, so it is doubtless out of print, but worth a search in second hand bookstores to see if you can find a copy.

    1. David, you are very fortunate to see more often Sandhill Cranes. This is my second encounter with these birds. The first was a few years ago.
Thank you very much for your recommendation of the book by Paul Johnsgard's.
I will look for it on Amazon first. I am sure some sellers there still have a copy of this book.
