Ospreys Saga - II.

Last Saturday I found another Ospreys nest that was a little different from the first I saw last week. It was next to the highway but not as big as the previous nest. The nest was also built on a man-made structure that was specially made for Ospreys.

While walking to the nest I noticed that the female became very alert, making loud chirping and then she took off from the nest and flew toward me trying to chase me away.

Ospreys are very tolerant of humans, they don't attack them but usually try to scare them away from their nests.  That is what exactly the female Osprey was doing.

The Ospreys wings are long and powerful.

There were certain patterns in the female Osprey flight.  First, she was flying far away from the nest and circling in the sky and then abruptly was changing her direction and heading toward me.

I wasn't close to the nest but apparently it didn't matter. The female was concerned about my presence.

At some point I thought it was time to leave and not disturb anymore the female.  As soon as I headed to the car the female Osprey was again on the nest happy about my departure.

Generally, life is good!

  1. It was a wise decision to turn back and let the quietness occupy the birds again...
