Collecting Stories About Herons.

Last Sunday at Bear river I decided to collect stories about Great Blue herons. They are incredible birds and I am learning more and more about their behavior.

This heron I found in a very unusual place. There was no water around, only snowy marsh. The heron was resting on a pile of dry grass enjoying the first rays of sun.

After taking this photo I thought why not to take a portrait. My first thought was to photograph the heron head to neck but at last minute I changed my mind and included more of his body.

  1. He seems a watchful guardian of everything, with a very agile eye.

  4. We have a heron that lives by our pond. I once saw him eating a huge frog. It was partially in his beak and must have been hanging down at least a foot with his legs outstretched.
