Rough-Legged Hawks at Bear River

Winter is a time for hawks in Northern Utah.  For immature hawks it is their first winter and a lot of them will not make it through. That makes me very sad.

A gymnast.

This one was more alert. Sometimes he gave me a look "why are you here".

This morning I was on a "hunt" for hawks  constantly looking on the ground or perches and it was fun.

  1. Kaya, after all these shots, do you ever notice, sometimes, ringed birds on your photos ?

    1. Cao, I didn't noticed yet ringed birds on my photos. Perhaps, some day I will.

  4. What a couple of impressive photos, especially the one with the hawk doing the foot (claw) work.

  5. Curiosas las dos fotografías del halcón asiéndose con dificultad al duro perfil de la señal de tráfico.

  9. Nature has many facets, Kaya, among them is random cruelty and, according to the school of Herbert Spencer, survival of the fittest. Very sad, for sure ....

Superb photography .... the first one is special ....

  11. Love the poses - sad that some won't make it. I was following Big Bear Eagles and jackie and shadow's fledgling didn't make it last winter She has now laid another egg this winter. Last time I saw it was just one but haven't checked in a few days.
