The Male Western Grebe Is Feeding His Babies

Yesterday morning was fantastic.  I watched and photographed the male Grebe who was feeding fish to his young ones.  The female Grebe was swimming with her three little babies on her back and from time to time approached her other babies.

That was one big family, seven young ones and two loving and caring parents.

The male Grebe caught a medium size fish and the young Grebe was able to hold it tightly in his mouth. Amazing!

The female Grebe joined the male and her young who is holding fish. The babies on her back are invisible they are covered with their mama's feathers.

This is another young is ready to get his fish. The male Grebe just caught it in front of his baby.

Every summer at the beginning of July I was looking for a female and her babies on her back at Bear River but never seen them.

This summer I was blessed to photograph a few Western Grebe's families and watch how they prepare for the nesting, raise their young ones and how they feed them.  Western Grebes are wonderful loving parents.
