It's cold and putting your head on another bird's shoulder can keep you warmer. It's for sure an affection, nice and tender. Unfortunately, the moment of tenderness will not last, a jealous Gull will ruin it, If I can't have what you have I will not tolerate your behavior, and a jealous Gull will chase the sweethearts away.
Togetherness gives you a sense of security, security brings calmness.
