"I Would Rather Not Fight" - I.

Birds communicate by songs and calls but like us, humans, their body language sometimes tells a lot about how a bird feels and what action it is going to take.

Thus the Snowy Egrets often become aggressive when their territory is threaten by intruders and they have to fight.

The decision to fight is often impulsive and ill-considered.  On the photo above the Snowy Egret turned into a ball of anger and rushed in full sail toward the intruder, inflating his plumage to look huge and mighty.

The Snowy Egret feathers are up on his head, the body tense and slightly bend forward, its bill is open. The Egret threatens and makes it clear that the intruder will be in danger and the best the intruder can do is leave the territory in a matter of seconds.

I was ready to shoot the coming battle and capture two fighting Egrets with their feathers are flying up in the air but to my disappointment, the aggressive Egret at the most decisive moment suddenly changed its decision to fight and turned back.

I don't know what caused this decision, maybe the Snowy Egret realized that it overestimated itself and could loose the battle or it was simply pointless to fight for a territory with plenty of food available.

Generally, life is good!
