Long-billed Curlew is Drinking Water

Seeing for the first time how a Long-billed Curlew was drinking water was a very thrilling moment. I  have never seen a Curlew near water, only in a field and was surprised to find this Curlew in the shallow water by the shore.

This Curlew is ready to drink and in a few seconds it will bend its body low with its bill touching the water.

It's time to get some water into bill.

Or better to get a bill even more deeper.  After the water is in a bill the Curlew will move his head up to swallow water. It will take many repetitions for Curlew to get enough of water.

Curlew are amazing birds. Their bill is incredibly long and helpful for catching  insects or warms from the ground. The females have longer and more curvy bills. The Curlews usually prefer to stay during breeding season in shortgrass and occasionally will eat small mammals. These birds live up to 8 years.

  6. Una serie, como siempre, magnífica esta vez con el zarapito de pico largo bebiendo. Todo un acierto compositivo el mantener el reflejo en todas las fotos.
