I photographed this male Ring-necked Pheasant three days ago in the late evening. It was an unusual encounter because the Pheasant was fairly close to the road and didn't run away immediately.
The population of Pheasants at Bear River seem higher than usual this spring. Last year's breeding season must have been good one for these game birds.

Pheasant hunting is a major attraction in many Midwestern states, and the mildness or the harshness of winters are the primary factors regarding their populations. The only detriment to their introduction into the United States has been the demise of the prairie chicken. The rooster certainly is an extremely colorful bird, which your photograph certainly demonstrates, Kaya.
